Josh-isms

Josh is such a fun and quirky kid, and he is always saying things to make you shake your head and laugh. Here are just a couple of his "Josh-isms" from the past week.

Last Saturday evening we were out walking around in town, and he was being a typical big brother and giving his younger brother a really hard time. We are in the middle of a store, and after having to repeatedly get on to him and his brother for acting up, Barry finally turns to him and says, "quit pushing your brother's buttons!" This is the conversation that followed:

Josh - I'm NOT!
Dad - Yes, you are, and you know it. Now stop it!
Josh - Well, I'm not pushing them hard!

That one lightened the mood and we all got a good laugh out of it!

The second one occured just the other day. In an effort to help with improving both health and fitness, Barry bought the P90X program. The boys are both really excited to start this with their dad, but after reading everything that was required for a basic fitness test, Josh made the following observation:

"Wow. Maybe we should have just got the P90 instead of the P90X!"

Just gotta love him!

Favorite Soccer Pictures from 8-29

Week 3 of soccer today. I once again missed Megan's game because I had to have Kyle at a different park at the same time. Hopefully soon I will be able to get some pictures of her in the goal. After Megan's game was over, she and her daddy joined us for Josh's game.

Anyway... these are my favorite pictures of the day:

Barry volunteered to be a side ref during Josh's game, and during half-time Josh walked over to talk to him. I could just imagine his Daddy giving him advice, and so I took a quick picture of them together.

An action shot of Josh

It was a good day out on the soccer pitch. Megan and Kyle both won their first games, and Josh's team continued their winning streak. I could have used a few more clouds, but all in all it wasn't too bad.

Seriously? Are you kidding me?!

The Mayfield clan is doing round two of our own version of "Biggest Loser". Round one was not a big success for me... try combining diet and vacation together, and you don't get the best results. So, I am trying hard to do better in the second go-around. Two weeks ago I started taking Healthe Trim, and getting up at 4:30 AM to work out. I have cut out soft drinks, reduced my snacking considerably, and feeling pretty good. Weight loss hasn't been phenominal, but at least it has been enough to let me know something is working. "Slow and Steady wins the race" as the saying goes.

Now, imagine how ticked I was this morning when my wonderful husband tells me that he has lost more weight than I have... and he has done NOTHING to warrant it. No dieting, no working out, no cutting out sodas... WHAT THE HECK?!! I don't get it.

Feeling very irritated today.

Downtown Huntsville

Since the weather was so perfect today, I decided to take the kids to downtown Huntsville to walk around and take some pictures. I grabbed batteries out of the charger (I had put them there yesterday so they would be ready for today) and we headed out the door.

Our first stop was The Church of Nativity Episcopal just off the square. We were having lots of fun taking pictures there, when my batteries went dead. I grabbed one of the 2 sets of extra batteries in my camera bag, put them in the camera, and they were dead. Hmmm... I grabbed the second set, and they were dead too? What the heck?? So, thus ended our photo portion of the afternoon. We then walked around the square, seeing all kids of great places to take pictures during our next trip downtown!

Here are a few of my favorite pictures of the day:

First day of soccer games...

Today was the opening day of soccer season. Poor Megan missed her game - she became the latest victim of strep in the family. The boys did well, and played hard, despite the heat. Josh's team won, and Kyle's tied. Barry and I are crispy-fried (even though I did put on sunscreen!).

And away they go...

The kids headed back to school this week. I couldn't help but get a bit teary-eyed as I looked at them. It is Kayti's senior year, and Megan is now done with elementary school. While they are still my "babies" they are not babies anymore! I found this picture of all of the kids together, and thought I would scan it and share it. I don't have the best scanner in the world, so please forgive the quality of the picture!

This is Megan's first day of Kindergarten; Kyle was going into First Grade; Josh was a Third Grader; Kayti was a big Fifth Grader! Hard to believe that they are now in 7th, 8th, 10th and 12th grades!

We are excited for another year of school, even though we are not very thrilled with getting up early! Kayti and Josh also started seminary this week, and while we miss the laziness of summer, it is kind of nice to be back in the routine of things again.

Happy Thoughts!

Today I officially head back to work, so I needed to remind myself to have happy thoughts today! This picture makes me happy, so I thought I would share.

It was taken on Temple Square, and makes me feel so peaceful. It also reminds me of the good times we had this summer with family.

Hope everyone has a great day!
